Dear Alumnae,
I am excited and honored to serve as the new chair of the Wellesley College Board of Trustees and humbled to succeed Debora de Hoyos ’75, who has led the trustees with wisdom, vision, and wit over the last seven years. I very much look forward to working with President Paula Johnson, a pioneer and role model in medicine, science, and higher education whose enthusiasm for Wellesley knows no bounds.
Who are the trustees? We are a volunteer group of alumnae and community members entrusted with ensuring that Wellesley College continues to thrive as an institution and deliver on the College’s mission of preparing a next generation of leaders in their fields and communities. We hail from many backgrounds, including business, finance, law, real estate, media, the nonprofit sector, and education; we come from many places across the U.S. and around the world; and we all share a deep commitment to Wellesley.
Our work focuses on advancing Wellesley’s ability to provide an extraordinary education to brilliant young women through excellent academics, vibrant infrastructure for learning and residential life, college affordability and accessibility, and to do so while maintaining financial sustainability. The critical thinking, analytic, and communication skills that come from a liberal arts education remain fundamental, and the world will always need the bright and brave leaders who come from Wellesley.
In celebrating Wellesley’s 150th anniversary, I am grateful for the generations of trustees who dedicated their talent and time to shepherding the College through many chapters of history. Our mission is evergreen, and our board of trustees works to ensure that Wellesley continues to make a difference in the world for the next 150 years and beyond. Please write on matters of interest to WellesleyBoard@wellesley.edu.
Best wishes,
Sarah Jane Gunter ’92
