With the help of generous alumnae, the Wellesley Students’ Aid Society (WSAS) was able to provide over $30,000 in warm clothing grants this year to take the chill out of winter for students.
More than 300 students requested help purchasing essentials like coats, sweaters, boots, and mittens to soften the bite of New England weather. Alumnae donations—including funds, Clothes Closet donations, and Amazon wish list purchases—made it possible to fulfill every request. This support has been like a ray of sunshine on a cold day for students in need.
As we head into milder weather, students’ needs are shifting. Spring clothing requests focus on health and wellness, with athletic shoes, yoga attire, sweatshirts, and running jackets at the top of the list. Visit the WSAS website to find the current wish list for students, donation form, and other information on this vital program.
Clothing grants are a small part of how WSAS helps ease stress on Wellesley students so they can focus on their studies. The organization also provides tuition grants and loans, emergency funds, gift cards for textbooks, and much more. WSAS aid reaches two-thirds of current students—and it’s all made possible by alumnae, who are helping the next generation of Wellesley women succeed.
Students express gratitude every day for the alumnae who support them through WSAS. As one student put it, “It means the world to me that I can be here because of people like you.”
To learn more about WSAS and its work, alumnae are welcome to the WSAS annual celebration during Wellesley reunion weekend in June. The celebration will review more than 100 years of impact and offer inspiring stories from students whose lives have been touched by alumnae support. Check the Wellesley College website for the reunion schedule closer to the date.
