Wellesley seniors were introduced to the alumnae network in a new way this year. A letter-writing campaign organized by Darcy Kupferschmidt ’12, associate director of alumnae engagement, yielded 1,600 personal missives from alums in classes from 1952 through 2021. Five hundred of the notes were from the Wellesley Racial Justice Initiative. Alumnae Association staff members distributed the letters after commencement rehearsal. (Senior Associate Editor Catherine O’Neill Grace and Editor Lisa Scanlon Mogolov ’99 are pictured behind baskets of letters, below.) “We received so many beautiful letters, many of which were decorated by or featured art by alumnae,” Kupferschmidt says. “Students seemed very touched by this surprise and some even asked if we had extra letters for them to enjoy! It seemed like students had as much fun receiving them as alums did writing them.”
