On a cold, rainy afternoon last November in the Texas capital, alumnae from the Austin Wellesley Club ran the Selfie Gauntlet, armed only with selfie sticks. Thirty artists had designed 30 stations as part of the Big Medium’s East Austin Studio Tour, and participants—including Sarah Dickerson Colby ’10 (above)—had 30 seconds to make each shot memorable. Elsewhere, the group wandered through a warren of studios, popping in on potters and other artists and taking in a solo exhibit by Steve Parker called War Tuba Recital, where military artifacts and sound combined to make art. A dozen or so alumnae turned out for the afternoon, enjoying free snacks and drinks and camaraderie by a firepit. “It is definitely worth trying something different,” says organizer Priscilla Weninger ’10, “because it will attract a different segment of alums.”
